Gold and Silver Price Forecast: Gold Eyes $4,595 as Bond Yields Fall

By: Arslan Ali | Published: Aug 20, 2026

Key Points

  • Gold has broken its descending trendline and reclaimed $4,447, with resistance at $4,595.
  • Silver remains bullish above $66.55, with potential to reach $69.48 if it breaks $68.02.
  • Increased Treasury buybacks have eased pressure on long-term yields, benefiting precious metals.

Market Overview

On August 20, 2026, the dynamics of gold and silver markets shifted significantly due to a reversal in the U.S. bond market. The Treasury Department's decision to double buybacks of long-dated government debt has led to increased demand for Treasuries, driving long-term yields down. This decline in yields has weakened the dollar, alleviating a major concern for non-yielding precious metals like gold and silver.

Previously, the U.S. 30-year yield had surged to 5.3%, the highest since 2007, driven by worries over rising deficits and inflation, particularly influenced by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Federal Reserve's Stance

The Federal Reserve's recent minutes indicated a heightened focus on inflation, with some members suggesting further tightening if inflation does not improve. However, market expectations lean towards a two-thirds probability that the Fed will maintain current interest rates in September, influenced by weaker consumption and labor data.

Demand for Gold and Silver

Gold demand remains robust, with central banks purchasing a record 289 tonnes in Q2, valued at approximately $45 billion. Notably, China added about 20 tonnes in July. A World Gold Council survey revealed that 45% of central banks plan to continue buying gold for reserve diversification.

Silver's market is also projected to face a sixth consecutive year of annual deficits, driven by increased demand from sectors such as AI infrastructure and electronics, despite a potential decrease in solar energy demand.
