Gold Price Analysis - October 2026

By Kathleen Brooks, Research Director UK

Current Market Overview

This week, gold is facing challenges as oil prices have surged above $100 per barrel and global bond yields are rising. The increase in government borrowing costs poses a significant issue for gold, which does not yield any returns, making it less appealing compared to other assets with rising yields.

Gold Price Dynamics

Despite these pressures, gold has managed to maintain a price above $4,000 per ounce, a critical support level that indicates ongoing demand for the metal. However, the short-term outlook remains challenging, with a 10% decline in the past month. Key support levels to monitor include $4,110 and $4,000, with a potential drop to $3,985, the low from mid-June, if the sell-off continues.

Future Projections

Analysts are divided on the future of gold prices, with some suggesting a potential rise to $5,000 per ounce. However, a significant recovery is likely contingent on a decline in the US dollar. Currently, despite a sharp drop in US Treasuries, the dollar has appreciated by 2.5% over the past month, attracting safe-haven flows.

Resistance Levels

If gold prices stabilize, initial resistance levels to watch are $4,200 and $4,300, which were previous support levels earlier in September. A significant easing in oil prices or a decline in the dollar could trigger a short-term recovery in gold prices.
