Arabica Coffee Price Presses the Flag amid Harvest Delays and Low Inventories

By: Peace Longe | Updated: Aug 24, 2026

Current Market Overview

The price of Arabica coffee is nearing a significant breakout point at $3.55, influenced by Brazil's delayed harvest and historically low inventories. Currently, Arabica coffee is trading at $3.463 per pound, having formed a bullish flag pattern since December 2024, characterized by a series of lower highs and lower lows.

Harvest Delays and Supply Constraints

Brazil, the leading producer of Arabica coffee, is reported to be 7% behind its harvest completion rate for the 2026/27 season compared to the previous year. The finer Arabica variety is also lagging, with only 86% of the harvest completed against 95% last year. This shortfall in supply is expected to exert upward pressure on prices.

Additionally, the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) has recorded a low of 229,214 Arabica bags, reinforcing the bullish outlook and suggesting a potential short squeeze in the market.

Technical Analysis

The technical analysis indicates that if the price breaks above the upper trendline at $3.550 and closes above this level, it could pave the way for a rise towards the psychological level of $4.000. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) currently stands at 57.68, indicating that there is still room for upward movement before reaching overbought conditions.

Potential Outcomes

If the Flag Breaks Out

A successful breakout above $3.55 could lead to significant price increases, with the potential to reach $4.00. The established support range between $2.362 and $2.683 serves as a safety net for prices.

If the Flag Fails

Conversely, if the price fails to break the upper trendline and closes below the lower trendline of the flag, it could lead to a decline towards the support zone of $2.683 to $2.362, and potentially lower to the historically contested level around $1.969.

Long-Term Considerations

Despite the current supply constraints, the USDA forecasts a record high total coffee harvest in Brazil, expected to reach 71.9 million bags for the 2026/27 season. This anticipated increase in supply could eventually lead to downward pressure on prices once the harvest delays are resolved.

Furthermore, the USDA predicts a 6% increase in global coffee output, which could further dilute prices and challenge the bullish sentiment in the market.

Risks to Market Sentiment

The primary risk for bullish traders is the impending full harvest in Brazil, which could lead to a significant influx of coffee beans into the market, potentially lowering prices. On the other hand, adverse weather conditions, such as a potential El Niño event, could negatively impact harvest yields, supporting the bullish case.
