AUD/USD Analysis: Australian Dollar Holds Steady Ahead of Inflation Data and the Fed

Market Overview
The Australian dollar (AUD) has shown a cautious tone in the market, particularly reflected in the AUD/USD currency pair, which has remained largely unchanged over the past three trading sessions, with a minimal movement of 0.1%. This stagnation indicates a lack of clear direction as traders await significant economic data releases.
Upcoming Economic Events
Two critical events are influencing market sentiment: the upcoming release of Australia's inflation data and the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision. The anticipation surrounding these events has contributed to the current neutrality in the AUD/USD market.
Inflation Data Expectations
Market participants are expecting the annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures for Australia to show a reading of approximately 4.2%, slightly above the previous figure of 4.0%. This potential increase in inflation is significant as it indicates a resurgence in inflationary pressures, moving further away from the Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) long-term target of 3.0%. A higher-than-expected inflation figure could lead to increased speculation about a more aggressive monetary policy from the RBA.
Federal Reserve's Influence
In addition to the Australian inflation data, the Federal Reserve's upcoming policy decision is also a focal point. Current market expectations suggest a 90% probability that U.S. interest rates will remain unchanged. However, the U.S. dollar has begun to strengthen, as indicated by the DXY index, which measures the dollar's performance against major currencies. Any signals from the Fed indicating a potential shift towards a more aggressive policy could further bolster the dollar, complicating the Australian dollar's recovery.
AUD/USD Technical Forecast
The technical outlook for AUD/USD remains characterized by a broad sideways trading range. Key levels to watch include:
- 0.71403 – Key Resistance: A significant barrier that, if breached, could signal a bullish trend.
- 0.70649 – Near-Term Barrier: An equilibrium level that coincides with major moving averages, indicating continued neutrality.
- 0.69092 – Key Support: A critical support zone that, if broken, could lead to a bearish trend.
Indicators such as the MACD and RSI suggest a balanced market dynamic, reinforcing the current indecision in price movements.
