GBPUSD Trades to New Lows and Tests Targeted Support

Published on 26/10/2026 by Greg Michalowski

Market Overview

The GBPUSD currency pair is experiencing a downward trend, reaching new session lows during early North American trading. The price has fallen below the 38.2% retracement level of the decline from the August high to the October low, which is positioned at 1.3342.

Current Price Action

Earlier in the session, buyers attempted to defend the 1.3342 retracement level, resulting in a minor bounce to 1.3356. However, this recovery was short-lived, and the subsequent break below 1.3342 has shifted the focus to the next support level, which is the rising 200-hour moving average at 1.33327. As of now, the price is testing this moving average, indicating a critical battle between buyers and sellers.

Technical Analysis

Resistance and Selling Pressure

Sellers gained momentum earlier in the Asian-Pacific session when the price failed to break above the 100-day moving average at 1.33874. This failure provided a technical signal for traders to sell, with risk defined against the moving average. The inability of buyers to push through this resistance led to a downward rotation in price.

Importance of the 200-Hour Moving Average

A break below the 200-hour moving average would mark the first significant breach of this indicator since October 15, indicating a potential shift in market control towards sellers. While a brief dip below the moving average does not confirm a sustained break, a follow-through below this level would suggest increased bearish sentiment, with potential targets at 1.33103 and 1.3298.

Buyers' Perspective

Despite the current selling pressure, the 200-hour moving average remains a potential support level for buyers. Traders may look to buy at this level, defining their risk based on the moving average. For buyers to regain control, they would need to reclaim the 1.3342 level, which would indicate that the recent downward momentum is losing strength.

Potential Upside Levels

If buyers manage to push the price back above 1.3342, the next resistance levels to watch would be:

  • 1.3355–1.3356: The earlier corrective high.
  • 1.33807: The 100-hour moving average.
  • 1.33874: The 100-day moving average that capped the Asian-Pacific session high.

Conclusion

Currently, sellers have the upper hand due to the rejection at the 100-day moving average and the break below 1.3342. The next critical test will be whether they can maintain pressure below the 200-hour moving average at 1.33327. A sustained break below this level would strengthen the bearish case, while a rebound above 1.3342 could signal a loss of momentum for sellers.
