Market Overview

Hungarian retail sales exceeded expectations, growing by 4.8% year-over-year compared to the anticipated 4.7%. However, Hungarian industrial production fell short, reporting a decline of 0.4% year-over-year against a forecast of 1.4%. In contrast, German factory orders showed positive momentum, increasing by 1.9% month-over-month, surpassing the expected 1.5%.

Upcoming U.S. Data Releases

Attention is now shifting to the United States, where key data for the services sector will be released later today. The Services PMI is expected to be reported at 3:45 p.m. with a forecast of 51.4. Following this, the ISM Non-Manufacturing Index is set to be released at 4:00 p.m., with a forecast of 54.2, slightly down from the previous 54.5. This report will also include important components such as Business Activity, Employment, and the Prices Index. Additionally, comments from central bank officials, including Waller from the Federal Reserve at 5:00 p.m. and Lane from the European Central Bank at 8:30 p.m., may influence market expectations regarding future interest rate movements.

European Stock Market Performance

As the trading session commenced, European stock markets showed slight gains. The VSTOXX, which measures market volatility, increased by 0.60%, indicating a slight uptick in market nervousness. The UK100 index rose by 0.23%, while the NED25, FRA40, SUI20, SPA35, and ITA40 indices also posted modest gains ranging from 0.04% to 0.13%. However, the EU50 and DE40 indices experienced minor declines of 0.07% and 0.15%, respectively.
